Free Critique Service. Not.

Why don't you offer a free critique service and spend your time evaluating people's manuscripts? (Just kidding)

Because I've grown accustomed to the luxuries of life: food, clothing and a roof over my head.

I think if you ask someone to critique your paper they will have to put in the same amount of time you put in to write it. That is no easy feat.

Critiquing manuscripts is exhausting, particularly if you want to do a good job of it. I've got several manuscripts I'm trying to critique right now, partly from people who helped me by critiquing my own manuscript earlier this year. If anything, it just seems to get more challenging as I get older--maybe because I have more experience under my best now and feel like I should be able to come up with better comments.

Don't take critiquers for granted. Offer equivalent value--say, a critique of their manuscript, or a dozen pans of homemade baklava or something.
